Title: EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT Reports To: President & CEO FLSA Classification: Exempt Office Location: Washington, DC Supervises: Industry Council VPs (3) General Summary: Responsible for leadership, direction and overall management of SPI's staff who are responsible for Industry Councils, Regional Operations, Sales, NPC, and Human Capital Management, towards the achievement of SPI's goals and objectives, while maintaining adherence to SPI's stated Mission. Serves internally as a member of the executive leadership team. Essential Functions: Manage all day-to-day activities as they relate to the Business Units (BUs) of SPI. Coordinate advocacy issues between the Councils and the VP of Government Affairs. Plan, coordinate and conduct council meetings at the National Board Meetings. Manage all day-to-day activities related to meeting planning for all Business Unit Conferences. Coordinate marketing and communications needs of the BU's with the VP of Communications and Marketing. Achieve annually the new membership growth and member retention goals by managing the sales department effectively and of same with the BU's. Support the grassroots needs of the Government Affairs department through the Regional Operations. Manage the day-to-day activities at the National Plastics Center and Museum, especially the success of the PlastiVan program. Help to create a compelling value proposition for all members regardless of their level of involvement. Ensure SPI is meeting member expectations as it relates to Human Capital Management. Coordinate Association activities in the absence of the President & CEO. Ensure Business Unit fund balances are always positive. Serve as a member of the executive leadership team. Participate actively in organization wide strategic planning and management issues. Develop the annual budget for assigned areas including staffing requirements and ensure budget is achieved. Work with the VP of Communications and Marketing to ensure IT needs of the Business Units, Councils and other groups are met. Manage regional offices and ensure they are focused on their goals, including budgets. Constantly look for ways to add member value and increase the viability and visibility of SPI. Job Qualifications: Education: College degree in Business. MBA preferred. Experience: 10 years experience in senior level management. 10 years experience in the plastics industry. Experience working with committees. Leadership, a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others. The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities. Problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level. Special Knowledge: Considerable skill in written/oral communication, negotiation, facilitation, team building, collaborative problem solving, conflict resolution, and systems/process development. Excellent written and oral communications skills, including presentation skills. Superior interpersonal skills. Ability to travel. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and other supporting technologies.
Title: VICE PRESIDENT GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AND PUBLIC POLICY Reports To: President & CEO FLSA Classification: Exempt Office Location: Washington, DC Supervises: Senior Dir Federal Government Affairs General Summary: Leads the Society's federal, state, and international trade government affairs programs and provides overall issue response coordination of SPI resources. Advocates SPI at all levels of government; establishing SPI at the federal, state, trade and local levels as the organization for representing the plastics industry in the U.S. Serves as staff liaison to the SPI Public Policy Committee (PPC.) Serves internally as a member of the executive leadership team. Essential Functions: Identifies public policy issues, opportunities and challenges of interest and concern to the plastics industry and develops programs and actions to respond to those issues. Manages the overall relations of the Society with the Congress, state legislative bodies, the federal government and state and local governments, including serving as a witness or spokesperson before all government entities. Serve as media spokesperson on certain public policy issues. Serves as principal coordinator for federal, state and international trade public policy issues among business units, science and technology programs, communications, regional offices and core programs. Establish a political network; know when and who to call for specific issues. Communicate related information to the Membership generally, including Business Units and to the Public Policy Committee (PPC) directly. Facilitate the development of priorities and outline for the PPC the mechanisms and costs of implementing these priorities. Implementation of the PPC directives. Develop annual budget; review/approve expenses and monthly drilldowns. Manage/hire lobbyists. Develop, with counsel, contracts for lobbyists and other vendors. Participate in related external programs with his/her counterparts in Member companies, other trade associations, and among policy decision makers. Advise the President, the Executive committee and the Board of pertinent information. Direct the management of SPI's PAC and related fundraising activities. Other duties as assigned. Job Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree required, masters or law degree preferred. Experience: Proven track record of strategic and tactical thinking and proven record of successful implementation of strategies. Proven capacity to network and build coalition support. Proven ability to manage staff. Possess personal contacts among policy leaders around the nation. Hands on experience in multi-state lobbying/governmental affairs program challenges. At least 10 years experience in association public policy leadership. Hill experience. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understanding of the plastics industry or another manufacturing industry. Extensive knowledge of the processes of local, state, federal and some international policy-making. Possess an understanding of the effect on industry of state and Federal regulatory actions proposed and implemented. Existing relationships with Members of Congress, their staffs and/or the Administration and other key organizations required. Title: DIRECTOR OF MARKETING SERVICES Reports To: Vice President of Communications and Marketing FLSA Classification: Exempt Grade: 8 Office Location: Washington, DC General Summary: Promotes the organization and its agenda to key internal and external audiences, including members, allied trade associations, third party groups and industry trade press. Provides marketing support for the association's core functions, with a focus on trade shows, educational meetings, sponsorship and Web-based revenue programs. Works closely with the VP of Communications & Marketing and the VP of Trade Shows in conjunction with an outside marketing agency to develop and execute the attendee marketing and public relations activities for NPE. Also responsible for the marketing and promotion of numerous association-hosted conferences, the development and management of content for the association' Web sites and the development and distribution of various collateral materials. Essential Functions: Develop and manage communications in the form of direct mailers, brochures, e-mail blast, faxes, flyers, online web development/promotions/updates and advertisements used to promote SPI-hosted and sponsored conferences, meetings and training opportunities. Write copy and proofread marketing copy for print, web, email and fax communications. Responsible for the promotion of NPE trade show to domestic and international attendees with a mandate to continually increase show attendance. Support the VP of Communications and Marketing in the oversight of NPE marketing budget, daily management of marketing agency and all creative work and programs implemented. Manage entire e-mail marketing promotion for SPI and allied association meeting using customized e-mail software. Develop and monitor the weekly e-mail promotional schedule to be certain that the e-mails are distributed on time and to diverse audiences. Seek means for combining e-mails to similar audiences when necessary. Explore innovative marketing approaches to re-energize and jumpstart existing programs using association database with the goal of increasing attendance and sponsorship revenue for association's meetings. Create prospect lead development within the plastics community, using association database. Must be able to work within existing database to extract lists, sort and target potential leads. Knowledge of iMIS database a plus. Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent writing and editing skills. Ability to manage a project from start through completion. Ability to prioritize and to work on a variety of projects simultaneously. Customer service and team player skills essential. Ability to travel and work overtime as needed.
